Ask yourself, "What would it take to design an ant from scratch?". There's a growing interest in developing "micromachines", tiny mechanical devices that mimic the technology used in living things. But, when it comes to "micromachines", living things like ants are jam packed with these microscopic devices.
The intensity in which even the smallest creatures demonstrate "design" cannot be overstated. Scientists and engineers are seeking to capitalize on the wealth of design data that is being learned from them. They use a process called, "reverse engineering" in which existing engineering by some 3rd party is dismantled and examined in order to figure out how it was made. One might assume that some level of intelligence was behind something that requires so much effort and training to understand just how living things were "put together".
"Intelligent Design" is an interesting pair of words.
They wouldn't exist together had it not been that people calling themselves, "scientists" refused to accept that their flagship hypothesis was taking water.
Since Darwin's "evolution" gained popularity, the push has been to demonstrate how "design" in living things could be the result of "natural processes". That is by some sort of "natural design" process like their favorite, "natural selection".
"Intelligent Design" takes an implied quality of the word, "design" and reiterates it to emphasize the point that "design" requires intelligence at a level adequate to complete the task. It's a concise and powerful rebuttal to the popular views. For evolutionists to concede this fact, they would need to ascribe intelligence to the processes behind their creation story. This would be, in effect, making a deity out of nature itself and expose their "theory" as a religious belief.
The expression, "intelligent design" is like saying,
"CHECKMATE!".
But, the long tradition in "science" of viewing "religion" as pathetic naivety' has made it difficult for the "scientific establishment", to confess their mistakes. They've invested so much in a flawed theory, and so many depend on it for their income. Hence, the response has been complete denial of any error, and gross hypocrisy about their "good science"!

In addition, many "scientists" have been deluded into believing that somehow "science" had debunked God altogether. For many of them, evolution was a triumph over religion altogether. As it is turning out, natural evolution is falling on its face and all they're doing is just digging in their heels as they peer down their noses at everyone who disagrees with them.
How does intelligent design deal such a crushing blow? Let's look at it this way...
Can any rational person deny that "design" exists in all living things? Animals and plants show an incredible amount of complexity and integration. Yet, they are durable and resilient, adaptive and just plain cool. They reflect brilliance, artistry, balance, detail, flexibility, etc. all marks of a wonderfully skilled "Designer".
The fundamental question one needs to ask is, "Can design occur by any other means, but by intelligence?".
Can the most complex ordered systems in the known universe, living organisms, be explained any other way?
If you demonstrate that "intelligent design" exists at any level in nature, evolution will be forever dethroned and return to its humble origin as "adaptation" and a wonderfully ingenious means of building resilience into seemingly fragile creatures.
If intelligent design is irrelevant to "science", then "science" is no longer relevant to living things.
If we've learned anything at all about living creatures, it's that they exhibit the highest "design" standards. Creative mastery is demonstrated at every level on this planet. Atoms, molecules and chemistry are used with total command and finesse with mind boggling precision and balance. 3-dimensional chemistry is used throughout with molecules of complex shapes running reactions normally requiring a great deal of heat at safe temperatures and with great speed and efficiency.
All of this stuff SCREAMS of being designed by the highest level of intelligence imaginable. The reasons i used to believe in evolution had little to do with science or objective inquiry. It had more to do with my trust and reverence for my teachers and professors. Looks like we were all blinded by our pride and unwillingness to think for ourselves.
Darwin was a dreamer and somehow managed to put the "intellectual" world under his eloquent spell. But, he was very naive about chemistry and didn't have a clue about genetics since it didn't yet exist. Yet, he was a good and imaginative writer and a skilled naturalist and observer.
What about the evidence?
Conservation of design - the best designers don't spend time reinventing the wheel. They develop a basic body plan that works and stick with it as we can see in the major groups, mammals, reptiles, marsupials, fish etc.
High level of organization - this is the best way to describe any living creature, even the most minute.
Simple universal templates - DNA and RNA
Artistic license - free use of form and color not tied to competitive or reproductive success.
Sudden emergence of fully developed forms - is reflected in the geological record.
"Punctuated Equilibria" or "gaps" - in the record may be better interpreted as "design revisions" then supposed "random" ordering of complex changes for later "natural" selection. In other words, gaps are OK and expected.
Problematic "trial and error" processes - presumed by evolutionists are not required.
Bio Diversity - reflects design flexibility rather than rigid criteria offered by "natural selection".
Does support "Natural Selection" - as a means of limited variation and change.
Does not require "ogging" - "Origins Guessing" is a favorite pastime among evolutionists attempting to rationalize ways that "nature" could have bridged the gaps between groups. ie, Bats first appeared as bats. That's what you'd expect.
Genetic defects - indicates that the DNA information that codes for living things is not improving or advancing towards perfection. Rather, it is on the gradual decline due to cosmic radiation penetrating our atmosphere, chemical pollutants, inbreeding, desease, etc. This is exactly what you'd expect if there was a point in time many generations ago when such living things were introduced with a perfect genetic makeup. The opposite is to be expected should natural selection have been designing forms of life with greater and greater degree of perfection.
The existance of disease, parasites, poisonous creatures, etc. - These things most often have primary ecological functions that we fail to recognize while we focus just on how they pose problems for us.
Rattles on Snakes - This noisy appendage on the end of a rattlesnake's tail is used to warn animals that venture too close. They use venom to subdue very active small mammals. To help prevent non-prey animals and humans from getting bit, the rattle serves well.
The Peacock - Well, need i say anything!
Complex Mating rituals and behaviors - Courtship dances, displays, offerings, etc. are a good sign of deliberate communication to humans the great level of detail invested in living things at every level.
Mitosis - the complexity of the machinery involved in "simple cell division" can fill volumes. Cells don't successfully reproduce unless all is corrcectly in place to get the job done. Even the "simple virus" needs a high level of complexity in order to replicate itself.
